Foster Kids Need Our Help!
Welcome to Friends of Foster Kids!

Welcome to the home of Friends of Foster Kids, a Macomb County, Michigan, based charity whose goal is to help our community's foster children. Theresa Toia and Karen Szczotka work endless hours to help these children, but they could not do it without your support! Thanks for your continued support and Happy Holidays!

How Friends of Foster Kids got started

This volunteer organization is made of people from all walks of life. People just like you, that want to make a difference in a child's world. We are "Friends of Foster Kids". Foster kids are children that , through no fault of their own, have been removed from their homes, due to neglect or abuse, and placed in temporary housing. These events happen so quickly, that often times the children have no opportunity to gather their belongings. Basic things such as clothing, underwear, a pillow...things we take for granted...toothpaste, photos...little things that help them feel safe and secure. We try to help...We let them know they are not alone...they are not forgotten.

There is no funding or special program that can help. We need your help.

How does "Friends of Foster Kids" help?

Foster care case workers provide us with the first names, ages, gender, sizes, and "wish lists", for the foster kids they supervise. Donors are asked to provide a child with gifts of clothing and things of interest, such as toys, games , or items from their wish list. Each child makes up a wish list of their special wants or needs, as they have no one to provide for them. Their needs range from underwear, boxers, winter coats and hoodies, to towels, sheets and pillows of their own. Duffle bags are also a must, as these children often live out of plastic bags. Your gifts for each child must be wrapped and labeled with the child's first name, age and the case workers code number. The gifts are distributed to the foster care worker, who hand delivers the gifts directly to the child.

Be SANTA for a "foster kid" this year...every year...and tell one or two of your friends!

Testimonials

There are many stories but I will share this one for now...

A young lady, 20 years old, and about to (what they refer to as) "age out", was one of our gift recipients our first year.  Having no expectations, she had provided a wish list to her foster care case worker.  When she was handed a stack of gifts, carefully wrapped with satin ribbon and bows she began to cry.  You see, her mother was a crack addict and she was removed from her home at the age of 3.  For 17 years she was in foster care and never placed in a permanent home.  Over the years, she had watched as other children got Christmas gifts.  This was the first time that she ever received gifts of her own.  "I received everything I asked for", she said again and again with tears falling from her eyes.  She was so grateful to not have been forgotten.  It gave her such hope.  We can know that the love from a giving heart will have a positive impact on the life of a child. Just to know that someoone cares.
